Glass: 0% contamination, 100% protection

Glass: all the properties of the purest, most inert and sustainable material whose surface reflects the sense of our choices on the planet.

Sometimes, the presence of glass unleashes a downpour of perplexity and fear.

The fear of breaking it, the belief of not knowing how to handle it with due care and the suspicion that its weight is too much for us, as if we were unable to match its durability and persistence.

Seen from the other side of its very transparent surface, however, glass shows us its true value and reveals itself for what it is: safe, protective, inert and hygienic. But also natural, preservative and infinitely sustainable.

The best material for food and cosmetic containers, beyond all diffidence and scepticism.

The real double-edged sword of glass? Reliability

To dispel the king of all myths – which is, "glass is not safe because it breaks"- we can look at it from several angles. Let's start with the main one, the one which leads off from the properties of the material of glass.

Although one of its indisputable pluses is the fact that it is ductile and malleable at high temperatures, thus allowing us to re-mould its shape without altering its quality, cold glass (therefore, the physical state in which we have bottles and flacons) is a solid, hard, tough material.

It can break, of course: but if we handle it as carefully as we handle any other object we care about, the risk of breaking a glass container will end up being similar to that of shattering a terracotta vase, a wooden frame or a porcelain ornament (and perhaps without the moral weight of having destroyed a family gift).

That said, you are wondering why "reliable". Simple: glass is a permanent, inert and waterproof material. In a nutshell, there is no external contamination that can break through. Its resistance to the most aggressive chemical agents makes it the best choice for storing chemical-pharmaceutical, cosmetic and food products, protecting the content and preserving its organoleptic characteristics.

The taste of inalterability: what drives the food and cosmetic industry to choose glass

Let's start from data: in Europe, on average one consumer out of two chooses glass for their food purchasing habits. The reason? They consider it the premium packaging for environment, health and taste. This perception derives from a set of factors, including the possibility of actually seeing the content of the product you buy.

But the second reason is the most surprising one: one of the reasons why a glass jar is preferred among the shelves in the supermarket is precisely that feeling of protection and safety. Where it may seem an incoherent consideration, in reality it provides the consumer with a greater facility to grasp the power of conservation, freshness, hygiene and integrity which only a glass container can offer to its content.

Glass packaging is designed to resist high heat, to protect food from light and to remove any possible chemical interaction with the food contained inside. All without altering aromas and flavours and jealously preserving the taste of the product.

For the food consumer, glass is therefore synonymous with health as it excludes any contamination of the food by external agents and, above all, with the potentially harmful components of the packaging. Cosmetic and pharmaceutical glass offers the same advantages:it protects, shields and emphasises the properties and integrity of the product.

Because what nourishes our body and our skin deserves the same great attention.

Transparent, safe, healthy... and infinitely recyclable

In addition to the undeniable advantages concerning the product, glass stands as the winning choice for those who care about protecting the ecosystem. Glass recycling is a reference model for the circular economyas, thanks to this, the energy consumption of glass production is reduced by about half.

The first Assovetro sustainability report drawn up in 2018 certifies the real sustainability of glass and quantifies its performance in terms of consumption, recycling and reuse.

The document tells us that, thanks to the separate collection system, glass can be recovered and returned to the production cycle infinite times.

Now you are probably thinking: "yes, but producing glass involves considerable energy consumption”. This is partly true, because obtaining a glass container requires high melting temperatures and, therefore, sufficient energy to reach these.

But Assovetro gives us another very important fact: the increase in energy consumption in recent years can be explained by the increase in glass production. An increase which, however, has been accompanied by a surge in the efficiency of the use of resources.

Conclusion? More glass is produced as its leading place in circularity is recognised at the product’s end of life. And because, aiming for an economic system that recovers what it produces, we work with the utmost renewable energies that progress allows us today.

A touch of elegance, quality and sensuality in everyday life

Where so far we've talked about content and container, now it's time to consider the context.

Let's face it: glass is elegant, refined, bright. Its harmonious shapes and its transparent appearance provide a sense of care and refinement both inside the home and in a work environment, which is a treat for the eye and something which is never a bad thing.

It adds a touch of design to interiors and conveys the desire to enhance the place you live in... in your free time and during working hours.

Glass and Oway

For us, this lucky encounter occurs in all the spaces which represent the brand, its nature, its history.

In the company, in the Academy, in the beauty salons and in the homes of Owayans, glass encloses not only our agricosmetic formulas, but also the synthesis of what we firmly believe in.

Since 2013 it has been our absolute choice of sustainability, reuse, protection, safety, strength and durability. It represents our desire to rewrite the fate of the container indefinitely, the desire to preserve environmental resources and those of the formulas of our Agricosmetics.

7 years ago we decided to intervene on the last link in the supply chain, by eliminating plastic containers and embracing glass and aluminium for all our product lines. Since then, we have used pharmaceutical and food glass because of its rare ability to preserve what biodynamics, research and green and clean chemistry achieve in order to make our treatments unique.

In the salons, these containers tell us at first sight - and in all transparency – about the power of their content. And they contribute to decorate the salon with real sustainability and concrete circularity, thanks not only to virtuous recycling, but also to truly amazing reuse and upcycling ideas.

Re-use is chic: The new paradigm of conscious fashion is about endless recreation

In a world is which everything has already been created, the only permanent trend is boredom.   Fashion innovates, surprises, and breaks the rules, but most of all, for decades now, it has believed in the biggest scam of all: making beauty and desirability synonymous with originality.

Chasing after experience: the art of the details that matter

When desires and expectations are fulfilled through feelings, experience comes to life. When the experience goes beyond the boundaries of the usual and is enriched by attention to detail, the value of hospitality and the anticipation of needs lead to a memory taking shape. Which, we are ready to bet, will be unforgettable.

Upcycling: the beneficial re-use that reallocates and ennobles waste

An upgrade of recycling, the antidote to downcycling and the creative reinterpretation of the concept of vintage, this virtuous habit vanquishes waste competition and puts products, raw materials and objects back into circulation, giving them a new, unforeseen life.
